Convert a PDF to JPG or PNG
Selected pages · Adjustable resolution · ZIP archive
Choose PNG to keep the sharp edges of text or a diagram, and JPG for generally lighter files on photo-heavy pages. Parapheo converts the ticked pages and bundles multiple results into a ZIP archive.
JPG or PNG: a practical comparison
| Format | Advantage in this tool | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| PNG | Conversion with no additional loss to the rendered output, suited to screenshots, charts and pages with small print. | The file may be larger, especially for a photographic page. |
| JPG | Quality adjustable from 10 to 100, often handy for lightening pages that mainly contain photos. | Low quality can create artefacts around fine text and sharp lines. |
The W3C describes the PNG format and the JPEG committee presents the JPEG standard. The best result depends on the actual content of the page, not just the name of the format.
Convert the PDF step by step
- Import the PDF. The stated limit is 100 MB and 200 pages per conversion.
- Tick the pages you need. Unticked pages are not rendered in the export.
- Choose PNG or JPG. For JPG, also set the quality from 10 to 100.
- Choose the resolution. The available options are 72, 108, 144 and 216 dpi.
- Start the conversion. A single page produces an image directly. Multiple pages are bundled into a ZIP archive.
- Open one image to check it. Check legibility, colours and file size before sending the whole set.
Which resolution should I choose?
- 72 dpi: lightweight preview or quick on-screen viewing.
- 108 dpi: intermediate setting, offered by default.
- 144 dpi: more pixels for reading or zooming in on a standard page.
- 216 dpi: more detailed export, with heavier images and archive.
A higher resolution does not recreate details missing from the original PDF. A page from a blurry scan will still be blurry after conversion.
What the conversion changes
Each page is rendered as an image. The selectable text in the PDF is therefore no longer text in the JPG or PNG file. Links, form fields, layers and other interactive features are not kept as such. Use this export to get an image of a page, not as a functionally equivalent copy of the PDF.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get all the pages?
Leave all pages ticked. If the PDF has several pages, Parapheo downloads a ZIP archive with numbered images.
Can I convert only certain pages?
Yes. Untick the pages you do not need before starting the rendering.
Can I convert the images back to PDF?
Yes, with the images to PDF tool, but the text and interactive features lost when rendering to images are not automatically restored.
